LATIN AMERICAN SQUASH SCHOOL
View- Philosophy- Concept- System
What is the Latin American Squash School?
It is the first and only squash teaching, training and development system in Latin America whose good results have been tested in many countries of the region. It provides training programmes as scientific, systematic and integral processes to provide for the different needs of each area of Squash, like players, coaches, clubs and federations. It was created after many years of hard work, analysing, diagnosing, and investigating the different needs of the region.
Vision: a promising Latin American Squash that is an example for the rest of the world, expressing itself through its players, coaches, clubs, events, and federations. The unified teaching and training system is based on the person’s integrity and on a playing system technically aggressive, as the world squash requires. It aims to take advantage of the maximum genetic potential of our people, which has already been demonstrated in many other sports, but adding what most lacks, constant effort and a scientific work method, based on the fact that all speak the same language, and with unifying and identifying roots, customs and origins.
Philosophy: “The end does not justify the means”. Our values are effort, confidence, constancy, honesty and hard work. To improve in squash there are not any mystery or magic recipe, there are no shortcuts. “It is not just practice what brings perfection, but perfect practice does.”
QUALITY + QUANTITY
Mission and Objectives: *That our philosophy and vision are also yours; that each player and coach knows how to build their reality and future. Make all dreams and plans become true practices; better the quality of all squash people in an integral way.
• To be analytical of oneself, learning from our own experience.
• To leave aside the idea that the others must do what I need to be done.
PASSION + VISION + ACTION = SUCCESS
Assumptions: Mental strength, technique, tactics, physic preparation, in this order, are the areas to work, respecting the individuality and peculiarity of each player. Cultural and educational approach with emphasis on the development of values. Integral development of players and coaches: “Coaches are important actors in a sport discipline, they are leaders who spread concepts of life quality, who teach the value of effort, of hard work, and of fair play; they develop self esteem, fun and satisfaction for playing the sport.”

Programme 8:
It will provide assistance in the development of a growth programme; thorough attention to the premises; quality management of the different areas; acquisition of our teaching methods; benefits for the client; high quality specialization; provision for different profiles and new markets.
It also aims to keep a high level quality of services and products, and to create a new competitive culture.
It will aim to understand the environment in order to provide solutions; this environment is strongly influenced by human aspects, like emotion and feelings. To do this, the answer should be to establish a balance between rationality and emotion.
It will also aim to be flexible and be open to changes, which are always a chance and a challenge, in spite of the fact that a person could see it as a threat.
Life requires more and more levels of specialised training to be able to grow professionally. The secret lies in understanding the needs of each sector to be able to manage the whole. It is “to know to do”.
Nowadays the programme is developed as a interdisciplinary paradigm with technological developments that have left intuitive and personal guidance out of date.
Objectives:
• General: understand the logics, characteristics, and functioning of sport organizations.
• Specific: apply sport organizations’ basic management and planning technologies.
• Attitudes: value the importance of management and planning in the institutional and personal development and improvement.
- How do people develop a liking for one or another sport?
- What provokes the demand for sport products?
- What social conditions lead to the establishment of an institutional system that supports a given sport?
To answer the above and many other questions it will be necessary to analyse the production of offer, considering the intentional influence of state and private sport organisations.
Aims of the whole development programme:
- To establish objectives every four years, and more convenient strategies for their achievement, aiming to model the future with anticipation, order, vision, and conviction.
- To concentrate operative efforts and motivation of the human resources that lead and carry out the programmes.
- To orientate strategically public and private investment towards the integral development of the sport.
Objectives for high performance:
- Increase the national athletes’ performance, granting a continuous progress of their development conditions and establishing the basis for future generations of national representatives, showing the real cultural and sportive hierarchy of the country.
- Consider the game as protagonist of future success in order to get medals, not as a victim of circumstances.
- The international sport achievements are possible only as a result of a scientific, methodological, systematic, integral process carried out steadily in time.
- The origin of this process requires:
• A proper detection and selection of young players with special talent;
• Efficient programmes and tools to develop their potentials;
• Skilful and well prepared professionals to develop them.
Federative conduction:
The field of federative conduction is based on three main aspects.
- Shaping vision and mission;
- Developing actions to increase the sport
- Strengthen the abilities of managerial skills.
Human resources:
To plan a coherent strategy, the whole group needs to agree on three fundamental assumptions:
- A perspective of the present situation
- A comparative vision of the future situation
- A strategy to follow from the present to the future.
The vision should be shared through dialogue, discussion, and planning in order to achieve the shared objectives.
All components of a working group require humbleness, criteria openness, confidence, responsibility, specific technical knowledge and the necessary awareness to foresee events, changing threats into development and growth opportunities, in order to get “first to the future” with a perspective and attitude that leaves aside part of the past.
Teacher and trainer development are the key to better the institutional improvement level, and it should be planned as any other activity.
It is not easy to propose changes and it is even more difficult that they are accepted, as there are always many interests, to change many things; habits and customs prevent these changes from happening.
The performance of a federation depends greatly on the peculiarities of human resources. These peculiarities originated in the acquisition of highly trained people and a spontaneous learning. However, training and teacher development produced by the same system are necessary. The dynamics of the modern world requires a continuous investment on such programmes to match the professional abilities with the changing requirements of the reality of sport.
It is important to have true teachers and trainers, and not just somebody who teaches.
“We will highlight more the profile of a trainer form the Latin American Squash School aiming to a Squash that is simple and at the same time comprehensive; these concepts should be present in each stroke, in each technical gesture, in each decision made in the courts and in each of the players’ movements, not forgetting life outside the court, behaviour and healthy life habits, with the emphasis on the means and the process rather than on the end.” (Extract from the Level III Manual of Trainer Development)
“Nothing can be done without at least confronting two ideas, thoughts or criteria. If we add to this positive attitudes the achievements will be uniqu., that is to say invest in a project of permanent education instead of stagnate as with automatic pilot for the rest of life”.
Anything could be done by training, except avoid negative consequences!!!!
